Therapeutic Lifestory Work

Children who have experienced early life trauma and loss are likely to have complex life stories which can be difficult to understand and talk about. It is vital for healthy identity formation that children develop a coherent narrative about their histories in order to make sense of what has happened to them and resolve difficult feelings.

Therapeutic Life Story Work is an integrative approach working directly with the child and/or their parent/carer. The intervention starts with information gathering, building trust with the child and then exploring the child’s past.  The work proceeds at the child’s pace according to their age and stage of development.

Therapeutic Lifestory Work helps a child gain an integrated sense of self; builds on their self-confidence and self-esteem and increases resilience.
